28. Packers 55, Bears 14 (2014)

Green Bay was heading into week 10 at 5-3, but was coming off a 44-23 loss in New Orleans. The Packers were struggling to stop the run, so they inserted Clay Matthews into inside linebacker. Then, Green Bay proceeded to blast its next two opponents, starting with Chicago. This game started a run in which the Packers only lost one game in the second half of the season. Aaron Rodgers threw six touchdowns in the first half and the Packers drilled the Bears 55-14.

Chicago punted on its first possession and Green Bay went down the field and scored, which would be a theme in the first half. The Packers would not punt once in the first half and would score on every drive, but one. On the first drive for the Packers, Green Bay needed 12 plays to drive 71 yards, ending with a Rodgers pass to Brandon Bostick on 4th-and-Goal from the 1 to give the Packers a 7-0 lead.

Micah Hyde ended the Bears next possession with an interception. Four plays later, Rodgers passed to Andrew Quarless on a third down for the score and the Packers took the early 14-0 lead. That was shortly followed by another Green Bay touchdown, a 73-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to Jordy Nelson.

Nelson would score once again to make it 28-0 minutes later. Rodgers rolled right and fired a laser into the end zone to Nelson, who caught it along the sideline and the Green and Gold were in front by four scores.

As if things could not get any worse for the Bears, it did. Green Bay started at its own 5 after a Chicago punt. The Packers used a 29-yard pass from Rodgers to Randall Cobb and a 16-yard run by Eddie Lacy to get them across midfield. After a holding penalty on Bryan Bulaga, Green Bay faced a 2nd-and-18. No problem. The Packers called a screen pass and Lacy received the blocks he needed and cut to the left where he had open space. Lacy was able to chug his way into the end zone for a 56-yard touchdown and the Packers had an astounding 35-0 lead.

With the score still the same, the teams traded fumbles late in the first half and Green Bay took over inside the Chicago 40. The Packers received their turnover on a sack of Jay Cutler and fumble recovery with a minute left in the half.

Green Bay was facing a 3rd-and-10 at the Chicago 18 late in the half when Rodgers went back to pass. He threw a pass into the end zone for Cobb, who reached up with one hand and hauled it in for the spectacular touchdown and the perfect exclamation point to a 42-0 whitewashing at the half. That was the sixth touchdown pass of the first half for Mr. Rodgers.

The scoring died down in the second half, but there were still plenty chances to laugh at the Bears. Chicago was in punt formation on its first possession of the second half. The snap was clean, but Green Bay’s Jarrett Boykin came in unblocked and tried to block the Chicago punt. When trying to block it, Boykin accidentally kicked it.......before the punter did. Just when you thought you have seen it all...

The play led to a field goal and Green Bay led 45-0. Chicago would finally get on the board on the next possession. However, the Packers would answer with 10 straight points to make it 55-7. If Bret Bielema was the coach, I think he would have gone for two after the last touchdown. That last touchdown would come via the defense. Cutler was trying to go for running back Matt Forte, but he overthrew him and Hayward picked it off and ran it to the house 82 yards untouched and the Green and Gold had a 48-point lead.

Chicago would return the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown for the closing score, but the Packers took Chicago to the woodshed with a 55-14 mauling.

It would spark a second half run that would help lead them to another division championship and a trip to the NFC Championship game.
